Bat Cave and Landak River BBQ

This is a relaxing day involving a trip inside Bukit Lawang’s bat cave, which is populated by many bats and swallows. This walk is around 1 hour from Bukit Lawang, heading through a rubber plantation, where you can see how rubber is grown and tapped. There are also many trees of Asia’s famous stinky fruit, the durian in this area. (In season, durian are available for purchase from local vendors- around 20,000rp each.)

You will spend about one hour exploring the cave, before heading further through the rubber plantation to the Landak river, which sits on the edge of the jungle. The Landak river is Bukit Lawang’s second river, and unlike the Bohorok river, used for tubing, the Landak river is tranquil and perfect for swimming. At the Landak river you will enjoy a BBQ lunch of chicken and fish cooked riverside by our guides, with rice and local vegetables, while you enjoy a relaxing afternoon swimming in the river.

You can also see the Tualang tree, which is an immensely tall tree frequented by honey bees due to its habit of growing branches above the rainforest canopy. As such, there are some simple steps, for honey collectors to climb the tree.
